About

West Hallam Junior Football Club was founded in 1886. Since its inception the club has been a facet of the local community and surrounding areas. Originally, the club was just a Senior team but with the introduction of the Junior section in 1980 by Roger Green and Phil Kerry, the club has grown rapidly since then to the present day.

The club attained the highest FA Charter Standard award of Community Club in 2008, showing the hard work and role the club has played in the local community. As a Community Club we have teams ranging from U7s to U16s, along with a Development Section who train on Friday evenings for children aged 4-6. The club also plays host to girls teams as well.

A message from our Club President, Carol Hart:

I am delighted to be President of this wonderful club, my late husband John was President for more years than I care to remember before his death in 1996 and I was honoured when the club asked me to take on the role.

Our connection goes back to somewhere around 1980 when we lived in Stanley, we had a visit one evening from two young men, Roger Green and Phil Kerry, both avid Derby County supporters, they asked John if he would be prepared to sponsor some footballs etc., so that they could start a small club up to provide an outlet for the many youngsters in West Hallam and surrounding villages who wanted to play football. Both John and I were Derby County season ticket holders, loved football and agreed straight away to help. Not only did this give some of our young people chance to play football but over the months and years teams were set up, managers (volunteers) came forward and it became a really thriving club, the club was called West Hallam Junior Rams at that time but it was realised that as the membership grew that not all involved supported Derby County, so not to upset Nottingham Forest supporters the Club was re-named West Hallam Junior Football Club.

I know John was really proud to support the club and he took great pride in seeing his name on the shirts or jackets that the teams wore, I have many pictures of these early days but the worrying thing is that some players in the pictures are now supporting their grandchildren to play for the club. I am so very pleased to still have a connection to the club and it is an absolute credit to all of the volunteers who help run the club and of course a big thank you to many of the parents and grandparents who ferry the players around, turn up and support them at the games. I think back to the presentation nights that used to be held at the Regency Rooms in Ilkeston and some of the guests who presented the awards Brian Clough, Kevin Hector and Kenny Burns to name a few, what wonderful nights, sadly it is perhaps not possible to hold these type of award evening en-masse but I will never forget them.

Once again I can only say how honoured I am to be the club President and I will continue to support the club in any way I can.
