Club History

The Club Kicks Off:

The official founding of West Hallam Football Club is unknown, however the first recorded mentioning of the club appeared in 1886, in an article written by the Derby Mercury. This shows the long standing role the football club has played within the community, and this tradition still continues to the present day.

The Seniors Strike Success:

During the mid-twentieth century, West Hallam Football Club had numerous successful amateur teams. One of the most famous teams was West Hallam Harlequins in the 1950s and 1960s. The Harlequin's biggest achievement came in March 1964, when they won the prestigious Derby Divisional Cup, in a thrilling 3-2 victory over Derby Rolls-Royce at the New Manor Ground in Ilkeston.

West Hallam Football Club's next period of documented success would come in the late 1980s and early 1990s, under the control of the club Chairman, Ken O'Connor. In 1989, the club was promoted to the Central Midlands League Premier Division, following a third place finish in Division One. The team missed out on top spot by a solitary point. Over the course of the 1988-89 season, West Hallam amassed an impressive 65 points winning 19 of their 32 games, scoring 83 goals in the process and conceding 52. Following promotion, the club would spend three years in the top division. Over the course of these seasons, the side would reach numerous cup finals including the Midlands Junior Cup on two occasions. Sadly, the team folded in 1992, as the club could not meet the requirements to stay in the league, with the team reaching a level whereby they required specific facilities such as floodlights and stadia. Below are some match reports from this period in the club's history.

The Rise of the Juniors:

The Junior section of the club was founded in 1980 by Roger Green and Phil Kerry. The initial team was called West Hallam Rams and they played their home games on Milhouse Field in the village. The club pays a huge debt of thanks to the founders of the Junior section, and to John and Carol Hart who helped fund the Junior section and the club since its inception. Over the next decade, the club would expand its Junior section rapidly providing high-quality football coaching to the local community and surrounding areas to this present day.

WHJFC Today:

The West Hallam JFC of today maintains the traditions of the club, in playing a central role in the local community and surrounding areas. The club has achieved and maintained the highest level of Charter Standard of Community Club for several years now.

The club now has teams ranging from U7s to U16s and recently had teams at U18s and Senior level. The club is also very proud of our fantastic development section, which offers football activities to our very youngest in society, from the ages of 4-6. On the 125th Anniversary of the club in 2011, the first Girls team was founded by the club, which was established by Tony King.
The club also wishes to pay tribute to our former Chairman, Matthew Searby, who sadly past away in February 2015. Matt was an extremely popular member within the club managing numerous teams and going above and beyond in every aspect of the club's life, with an I'll do it attitude. Following Matt's passing, the whole club came together to raise money for Matt in a fitting tribute to him involving the whole village and all of the West Hallam teams from U7s to U18s.
In 2018, the club also struck up a partnership with Cabinteely FC, a semi-professional team from Dublin, Ireland. This partnership has led to West Hallam teams playing friendlies against Cabinteely both at home and away in Dublin.
The club's most recent success came on the 6th May 2018, when the newly formed Senior team would win the Long Eaton Junior Cup with a thrilling 2-0 win over Shardlow St James. Along with finishing Runner's Up in the Long Eaton League, Division Two.
